SpiceJet flags off first daily direct flight on Guwahati - Dibrugarh route
  • First airline to offer daily direct flights between Guwahati and Dibrugarh
  • To operate 26 daily flights in and out of North East, 8 flights within the region

Gurugram, October 03, 2017: SpiceJet, the country’s favourite low-cost carrier, today launched its 50th destination – Dibrugarh by introducing daily flight services on the Guwahati – Dibrugarh route. SpiceJet is the first airline to offer daily direct air connectivity between Guwahati and Dibrugarh. The traditional flag-off and lamp-lighting ceremonies were held at the Dibrugarh airport. The new flight will further connect Dibrugarh with Silchar via Guwahati.

The flag-off ceremony was graced by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Shri Chandra Mohan Patowary, Cabinet Minister, Assam, Mr. D K Kamra Regional Executive Director AAI, Mr B K Tailong Airport Director Guwahati AAI, Comdt L K Haokip CISF along with Mr. Debojo Maharshi Chief Marketing Officer, SpiceJet. The first passenger was welcomed by Spicejet officials and the ceremony finally came to a conclusion with the flagging-off the flight SG 3214 at 10.40 am, from the Dibrugarh Airport.

In line with the aviation tradition to mark key milestones, the homecoming journey of SpiceJet’s SG 3213 deployed on the Guwahati-Dibrugarh route was greeted with a grand water cannon salute at the Dibrugarh Airport.

With the launch of the new service, SpiceJet will put Dibrugarh on the pan India aviation map through seamless onward connections on its network. This is in perfect sync with the airline’s agenda to connect smaller cities and it further strengthens SpiceJet’s focus on North-East India. SpiceJet will be operating its Bombardier Q400 aircrafts on the said routes.

Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam said “We thank SpiceJet and especially Mr. Ajay Singh for accepting our request and inducting Dibrugarh onto SpiceJet’s network with such priority. This means a fresh impetus to trade, tourism and connectivity between northeastern states and adjoining regions. I truly applaud SpiceJet’s relentless efforts towards taking flying to the masses and elevating North East on the country’s aviation map.”

On the occasion of the flagging off ceremony, Mr. Debojo Maharshi Chief Marketing Officer, SpiceJet said, “The north eastern region has a distinctive connectivity constraint on account of its difficult terrain and hence SpiceJet has always remained committed to enhancing connectivity to this region. We are extremely pleased to induct Dibrugarh, which also marks it as the 50th destination on SpiceJet’s network.”

With the new flights SpiceJet will now operate a total of 26 flights in and out of North East and a total of eight flights within the region.
