Gurgaon, 8th March: On Holi, in order to spread even more joy, SpiceJet
arranged for a special treat for underprivileged children from the Navjyoti
India Foundation & India Vision Foundation. Twenty-five children from
these foundations, along with five guardians, were flown from Delhi to Goa for a day of
fun and frolic on the beach for the children, for whom this was the first ever flight.
SpiceJet senior staff accompanied the children as they celebrated a colourful and warm
Holi.
The children, aged 8-12, were very excited to fly for the very time and they expressed
their excitement and gratitude to Spicejet for arranging the special tour by presenting
the team with a very colorful hand-made card. The aircraft the children flew to Delhi
was SpiceJet’s flagship “Red Chilli” Boeing 737-800NG, the aircraft which has a special
livery featuring photos of pilots and cabin crew on the body. Several of the children
expressed their ambition of becoming pilots or cabin crew when they grow up, inspired
by the aircraft livery and awe of their very first flight. Captain SC Gautam patiently
answered many questions the children had upon arrival in Goa.
In Goa, the children were taken on a full tour of the airport, and then taken to spend a
few hours on Bogmalo beach where lots of fun activities had been arranged for them. It
was the first time these children were seeing the ocean, and this capped a truly
memorable day for them. The children were flown back to Delhi later the same evening.
“At SpiceJet we celebrate festivals with all our heart, and Holi is a festival that is
especially close to our heart as it embodies the passion, spirit, warmth, and colour
that is synonymous with SpiceJet”, said Sanjiv Kapoor, Chief Operating Officer,
SpiceJet. “We thank Dr. Kiran Bedi for giving us the opportunity to partner with the
Navjyoti India and India Vision Foundation to give 25 of the wonderful children in
their care the chance to fly, and a chance to celebrate Holi on the beach in Goa”,
Kapoor added. “In conversations with the children on the flight, I discovered that many
of the 11 and 12 year old children taught upto 20 younger street kids English, Maths,
and Science in a structured program as part of their regular activities. This is truly
noble and inspirational, something that could be emulated by all children”, he
concluded.
“Giving Wings to Dreams” is the programme under which SpiceJet
organizes these special treats for underprivileged children and for children with
special needs, with regular such activities throughout the year. Last year too,
SpiceJet had conducted similar flights for children from Calcutta orphanages who were
taken for a day trip to Delhi and for a group of autistic children from Chennai, who
were taken for a day-trip to Madurai.
