Hyderabad

Hyderabad is the capital of Telangana, and the fourth most populous city in India. The city is often known by the sobriquet The City of Pearls, and was once a global center of the diamond and pearls trade. More recently, the city has emerged as a major global center for the information technology (IT) and biopharmaceutical industries. The city is home to the Telugu Film Industry, known popularly as Tollywood, and also to many historical sites, making it a regular tourist hotspot. Known for its rich history and culture with monuments, mosques, temples, a rich and varied heritage in arts, crafts and dance, Hyderabad was the former seat of the extremely wealthy Nizams. Hyderabad offers a unique shopping experience, from the traditional pearl or diamond shopping (especially around the Charminar and Laad Bazaar area) that the city has always been famous for, to popular arts and crafts, handlooms, carpets and textile. The Basheerbagh area of Hyderabad is considered the city's main shopping district for leather, textiles and handicrafts. Mahatma Gandhi Road in the Secunderabad area is home to a string of trendy boutiques and clothing emporiums.
